Fish we catch

Fish we catch

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass are a great beginner

fish to target. you will have the option to use

live bait or artificial lures. Largemouth can be

caught using a variety of fishing techniques and

multiple types of gear.

Panfish

Panfish are another easy beginner fish. Smaller in
size but usually the easiest to catch. You can
catch panfish on light gear and on live bait,
artificials and bread. Panfish species include the

following: Bluegill, green sunfish, black and white
crappie and other small fish.

Catfish

Catfish are a more difficult species to catch if you are new to fishing. There are three main species of catfish in Virginia. Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish and flathead catfish. These species tend to be larger and can weigh quite a lot. There are a few species of small catfish in the Bullhead family. Catfish are primarily caught on live bait, cut bait and even things like chicken liver.

Carp

Carp are notorious for being one of the hardest
fighting freshwater fish in the united states. They
are also pretty tricky to catch due to them being
very hook shy. There are two primary carp species
in virginia. Common carp and grass carp, both of
which can easily exceed 30lbs. carp can be caught
using corn and other types of particle baits. I will
show you how to catch carp using a european
method of carp fishing using pack bait and method
feeders with hair rigs.

Bowfin and gar

bowfin and gar are two toothy fish species that
are both fun and tricky to catch. Usually
involving soaking a piece of cut bait either on the
bottom or under a float, these fish like to pick up
the bait and sit with it and require a good hookset
to drive the hook into their boney mouths. Once
they are hooked, they provide a fun fight!
